We've compiled some awesome usage resources for you! Think of them as your own Teen Health & Wellness Boot Camp. Download and print this flyer to quickly learn the basics of using the database and some great tips for integrating it into your library or classroom. Download this PowerPoint presentation on Beyond the Basics, which includes tips to maximize usage. Share these resources with your colleagues and parents to ensure you get the most out of your subscription!

Personal Stories and the Common Core

Teen Health & Wellness offers two amazing opportunities for teens to share their storiesthe Personal Story Project and the "It's Your Cause" Video Challenge. These projects allow teens to take the information they have learned in the database and create with it. Students become producers of information, in alignment with Common Core initiatives for reading, writing, speaking and listening, and media and technology. Your teens have the opportunity to become published authors as their stories and videos can be added to Teen Health & Wellness.

Some of the great ways you can use these projects at your school or library include writing contests, college essay preparation, workshop exercises, Teen Advisory Board activities, and class projects on specific topics. Video PSAs can be used as capstone projects for your health, PE, or practical life classes. Authors of published stories and videos will receive a Certificate of Achievement and $25 gift card to Barnes & Noble or Chapters.

Read some of the latest stories written by teens at Iowa's Van Meter School on topics such as dealing with your parents, decision making, self-image, and volunteering and activism. We thank their librarian, Shannon Miller, for getting them involved!
