library terrace

Jess DaFoe and Melanie Wilke, the librarians at Terrace Public Library in Terrace, British Columbia, knew they needed to reach out to teens in the community. So...the library created a "Girls Get Real" program that spent the day focusing on issues important to teen girls. Girls did yoga, talked body image, and got mini-facials. The program was so successful, Terrace ran it twice⎯and hosted a separate event for moms so they wouldn't feel left out! Teen Health & Wellness played a key role in this program, as teens were introduced to the database and given time to explore its articles and features. Librarian Jess Dafoe reports that the girls were delighted with the hotlines feature and that they could access the database remotely 24/7!

We have more proven public library programs in the Librarian/Educator Resources section. Wonder no more about what to do next with your teens when summer reading is over!
