Bullying Prevention with THW

From Vancouver to London to Buffalo, bullying remains an issue in our communities. October is national bullying prevention month, and Teen Health & Wellness is full of information and materials to help struggling teens.

The articles, personal stories, and Dr. Jan Q&As create a common vocabulary and provide a set of tools to understand and address issues of bullying, cyber ethics, depression, suicide, and school violence, as well as support a diverse student population, including GLBT teens.

Be sure to download our online Stop Bullying tool kit, complete with easy-to-print posters and bookmarks, a state-by-state list of anti-bullying legislation, and a bullying prevention PowerPoint presentation to share with your colleagues. And please, encourage your teens to download the free mobile app available in the iTunes store for 24/7 access to hotlines, help lines, and Internet resources.

Teens Share Their Stories

Teens deal with a lot of issues from day to day, and it's important for them to remember that they are not alone. Teen Health & Wellness provides two amazing opportunities⎯the Personal Story Project and the "It's Your Cause" Video Challengefor teens to share their personal stories for online publication. By sharing their stories, teens can connect with others dealing with the same challenges and help someone else better understand their own life experience. Stories and videos will be heard around the world by teens looking for help from someone who truly understands.

Visit the Personal Story and Video archives for the latest contributions on bullyingcyber ethicsanxietybeing GLBT teen, and depression.

Use these projects at your school or library for writing contests, college essay preparation, workshop exercises, Teen Advisory Board activities, and class projects on specific topics. Video PSAs can be used as capstone projects for your health, PE, or practical life classes. Authors of published stories and videos will receive a Certificate of Achievement and $25 gift card to Barnes & Noble or Chapters.
