Get Creative with ThingLink

Wondering how to get your teens' creative juices flowing? We've got a solution for youperfect for end-of-the-year projects, maker spaces, and digital media lab programs! Rosen Digital has joined ThingLink to host a new contest that encourages creativity and 21st-century learning skills.

ThingLink allows students to connect audio, video, images, websites, and text into one cohesive image presentation. (Browse examples on ThingLink.com.) Encourage your teens to explore Teen Health & Wellness for a topic they want to delve into⎯drugs, diversity, cyberbullying, choosing a college⎯and then create their own interactive image presentations based on what they've learned and what they'd like to share. Students will dig deep into content and present their research and ideas as they practice digital literacy skills of image creation and selection, content curation, tagging, and sharing. It's the perfect project for a library or classroom, and images could be featured and linked in the database⎯joining other student-created content from the Personal Story Project and "It's Your Cause" Video Challenge.

All students in grades K-12 are eligible to enter. Students can win an iPad Mini, and winning schools can receive a year subscription to any Rosen Digital database. Entry deadline is May 1, 2013. Visit ThingLinkContest.com for more information!

Rosalind Brice, Teen Services Specialist at the Toronto Public Library, has designed a number of programs for both teens and adults in her community using Teen Health & Wellness. Rosalind describes her community as "diverse, mainstream, multilingual, and multicultural," so she creates programs featuring a topic with wide appeal. Specific programs in her "What's On" series include Prostate Cancer Awareness, Stop Bullying, eCare Yourself, and Coping with Natural Disasters

Rosalind designs her programs around topics featured in Teen Health & Wellness, and program leaders use the database to guide a discussion with the group. This "What's On" series of programs is a great idea to continuously share information with your community on a wide variety of topics⎯you could even ask your patrons what topics they want to see featured next!

Thanks so much for sharing your story, Rosalind!

Let us know if you'd like more info on Rosalind's programs. And have you used Teen Health & Wellness in your classroom or library? Share with us and you could be featured in an upcoming newsletter!

  • Consult your Teen Advisory Board (or Group!) on what topics they want to know more about. Use their feedback to design a series of informational and interactive programs.
  • Host a cooking program and educate your teens on healthy eating. This would be a great activity to occupy teens over spring break!
  • Post a button or widget on your school or library website. Make sure your teens are aware of the database!
