Jess Dafoe and Melanie Wilke, the librarians at Terrace Public Library in Terrace, British Columbia, knew they needed to reach out to teens in the community. So...the library created a "Girls Get Real" program that spent the day focusing on issues important to teen girls. Girls did yoga, talked body image, and got mini-facials. The program was so successful, Terrace ran it twice-and hosted a separate event for moms so they wouldn't feel left out! Teen Health & Wellness played a key role in this program, as teens were introduced to the database and given time to explore its articles and features. Librarian Jess Dafoe reports that the girls were delighted with the hotlines feature and that they could access the database remotely 24/7!

Do you have a great program to share? Let us know and it could be featured in the next newsletter!

  • Share the mobile app poster in your school or library to ensure teens are aware of the many ways to access the database.
  • Host an Internet Safety 101 program and use database articles to help teens determine what information to put online and what to keep private.
  • Plan a yoga day for your class to highlight techniques that help reduce stress. Not into yoga? Share other ways teens can manage stress and relax.
